Al-Melaweieh

The Melaweieh dance is an old mystic, religious, and spiritual dance which is now supported by public and official institutions through performances inside and outside the country. The dancer turns on himself (spins) leaning to one side or to the front, and cruises between dancers alternating between slow and fast movements. The Melaweieh dancer wears broad white clothes and a white conical hat. The name of God is used during the dance sessions of as part of the chanting and recitation.
